Frequently Asked Questions ...

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a low-impact exercise method that focuses on strengthening muscles while improving postural alignment and flexibility. It was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century.

What should I wear to a Pilates class?

Wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely. Avoid clothes that are too loose as they can interfere with your movement and we ensure your alignment is maintained throughout class. You will also need to wear grip socks on the reformer, which can be purchased in the studio.

Do I need any reformer Pilates experience to attend a class?

No prior experience is needed. Our studio will offer beginner classes or private sessions to help you build your confidence in using the equipment.

What are the benefits of Pilates?

Benefits include improved flexibility, increased core strength, better posture, enhanced mental focus, and overall body conditioning. Pilates can also alleviate back pain by strengthening the core muscles that support the spine.

How often should I do Pilates to see results?

We recommended to attend at least 2 classes per week. You can practice mat Pilates simply at home and your instructor can assist in providing an at home plan for you. Consistency is key to achieving and maintaining benefits.

What is the difference between Mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates?

Mat Pilates is performed on a mat using body weight and small equipment. Reformer Pilates uses a specialised machine called a reformer, which provides resistance through varying spring weights for a more intense workout.

Is Pilates suitable during pregnancy?

Pilates can be adapted for pregnancy, but it's important to consult with your doctor or midwife and inform your instructor about your pregnancy so they can modify exercises accordingly.

What should I bring to a Pilates class?

Bring a water bottle, a towel, and grip socks. All other required equipment will be provided by the studio.

Are the classes available to men?

Absolutely, we've had a number of enquiries from men already that can't wait to book onto the classes. We welcome everyone to our studio and can adapt classes for men with the varying spring weights.

Will you offer student or blue light discount?

Discount codes are available to both and are applicable to any individual class booking. To access the code, you will be required to send proof of your student or employment status to info@figurepilates.co.uk ahead of your booking.
